Alganon Still Returning, Says Smart

After years of the servers being offline.

Alganon’s servers have been offline since they were taken down for a server migration. In November 2017. But if there is one person still keen on bringing the game back online it is none other than Derek Smart himself. We last looked in on Alganon back in 2019 when Smart denied that the game was in fact dead forever, noting the slow pace and amount of work required to migrate the game to its new home and prepare it for the worldwide launch it never got.

Last month Derek Smart returned to the Steam forums to once again remind us that Alganon is definitely not dead in the water.

I am working with some third-parties on bringing it back – worldwide this time. It will be back. I promise.

Responding to comments on the graphics being outdated, Smart noted there are plans for visual improvements once the game is back online.

It will be dated only in terms of HD art assets; but there are even older MMO games than Alganon; so I’m not overly concerned about it. I mean, look at Everquest, Runescape etc.

That said, I am hoping to do some visual improvements to 2D/3D art assets at some point post-launch, like we did with the expansion pack.

Is Alganon coming back? Who knows. All I know is Derek Smart owes me four years of lost offline progression on my characters. You cheapskate.
